Description

Don’t be confused. This is not a standard tuned diatonic and it is not what we recommend for beginners. This is a special purpose harmonica. The “Melody Maker” tuned diatonic is made specifically to be played in the 2nd Position and is used for songs where a complete major scale is required while playing in the 2nd Position. It can be a bit confusing, but the key of the harmonica is the key for the 2nd Position playing. Comes with a protective hardshell plastic case.

Dave Gage Thoughts: This is a great harmonica for playing melodies and country music in the 2nd Position where you require a complete Major Scale. The Melody Maker is similar to the Hohner Country Tuned Special 20 (560), but slightly different. On the Melody Maker, you do not need to bend the hole 3 Draw as you do on the Hohner Country Tuned model to complete a Major Scale. Hole 3 Blow can be played instead, so you can achieve a complete Major Scale in 2nd Position without including bent notes.

Typically, the key of the harmonica is the same as the 1st Position playing, but not in this case (similar to the Lee Oskar “Natural Minor”). If you would like to play to a song that is in the key of “A” you would need to buy a key of “A” Melody Maker and stick with only your 2nd Position riffs which will allow you to take advantage of the bending capabilities on the low draw notes.

Be sure to use the “Choose Key:” pull-down menu to select your key. The default key of “C” is good if you are just starting out. After “C”, other good “Melody Maker” keys include: “A”, “D”, “E”, and “G”. Return to this page to add additional keys to your order.
